The Deca Tree - D-mic Maths problem solving

Today we worked on our second task in our D-mic groups. We learned that when you make mistakes your brain grows, but when you say the right answer your brain stays the same size. My group completed this problem and got it correct, but figuring it out took a lot of work.

The first thing we did was figure out how many leaves there were because the question is how many leaves were left on the tree. We figured out that there were 10,000 leaves on the whole tree. Next we had to take away all the leaves which were the ones that the woodcutter took off, there were 1111 leaves. We took 1111 from 10,000 and came up with 8889.

It was really cool to see how other people work in maths and it was quite fun to work in a group.

  1. Kia ora Kiarah,

Well done for collaborating with your group so well! This was a challenging problem so I am glad you had to grapple with it to reach the final answer - this would help your brain to grow.
