The top of the beanstalk

The ground was shaking and I was panicking, “Mummmmmmm!” I shouted. ‘It was very strange because we don’t usually have earthquakes in New Zealand’ I thought to myself. I noticed that the grass started to become a big mountain of grass and dirt. It was as if a big plant or tree was growing. Next thing you know a humongous bean stalk bolted out of the ground! My mother and I were astonished, it was literally like we were in the fairy tale Jack and the beanstalk. I thought I could climb up it ,but it wasn’t that easy.

I tried and tried and tried and tried. Finally I got a grip of the huge plant. Climbing to the top of the beanstalk, the village view started to grow. It was beautiful, I could see the birds flying high, the breeze touching my skin and…

My mother shouting “Be careful Kiarah!”.

At last I reached the top, but then I heard something in the distance. “ Thee thy tho thumb! Who passes there!”...

“AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!” I shouted. ‘Shut it’ I said to myself. I was stressed and exhausted I didn’t know what to do! Then I realised that the giant had made the decision for me. Immediately he leaped from the mystical clouds onto the beanstalk.

At that moment I thought that fairytales were only in books and I, well I was in reality.

CRACK! That's when I thought my life had come to an end. ‘This is it, this is the end’ I thought to myself. I fell to the ground, as my life flashed before my eyes.

BOOM! I opened my eyes and saw that I was still falling. The giant fell! I still had a chance, I got into a pencil position and then folded my legs. If I could land on the giant’s belly, I could be saved!

Zooming through the air I could feel the breeze float on top of my skin. I was nervous, but sure of the idea. Bloop!

I did it, I did it, I did it! I was full of relief. I let out a huge sigh. I could feel something in the giant's pocket. It was the gold that he had stolen from my father! I was so happy, now my mother and I could live the life that we deserve...

Caving Narrative

“Aaaaahhhhhhhh!”  I thought that was my last scream I would scream in my whole lifetime. If you're wondering what I am talking about, just stay to listen…

It was a sunny day and my friend Angelica and I decided to go caving, at the Waitomo Caves. First we had to read the site which didn’t take very long. Then we got the gear that we needed. We were a little bit nervous, but I decided to try and dream of what it would be like, before we got there. I dreamt of it being fun, exciting and most of all safe and calming, (let me tell you right here and right now that I did not think right).

As we slowed down to pull up into the car park, I saw the humongous sign and that sign compared to us, we were little beads. There was a big shelter over the wooden entrance. We finally walked in, the place was beautiful, if you think i'm talking about the caves you're wrong. I’m talking about the place where you pay, the front desk! It had photos of the cave everywhere and the place was so dark but so bright. The ladies were super nice and they told us all of the safety cautions and how to work the rope.

This is the moment we all have been waiting for! The cave entrance, the reason why you need a rope is because you repel into the cave. When I saw the cave I froze in amazement, the bottom of the cave was actually a dip and it looked like a huge mussel. I didn’t know what to do. The birds were chirping while the sweet sound of water was echoing through the cave.

We were finally ready to repel into the cave, I was so excited. The rope was tight and we were ready to get set go. I got attached to the rope and then started to repel, I got nervous because the rope started to come loose.

Snap! Next thing you know I'm falling for my life. “Aaaaahhhhhhhh!” I tried to scream again, but I was shocked.  My throat was blocked, and I couldn’t move or even twitch. I was sweating, panicking, surely this was the end…

Suddenly I felt a hand grip my hand, I felt a sigh of relief, it was Angelica! We quickly packed up and paid the money. We would never go there again. Angelica saved my life and still to this day I thank her.
