My investigation question

Investigate the effect of different types of physical activity on the heart rate/pulse rate.

Which actions/activity resulted in the highest heart rate?

Which actions/activity resulted in the lowest heart rate?

Why do you think this might be?


  • Hypothesis: 

  • 1, I think running as fast as possible on the spot will give me the highest heart rate.

  • 2, I think stretching will have the lowest heart rate.

To find the highest and lowest heart rate while doing activity

My investigation steps

Materials: Stop watch, smart watch, tennis ball (for catch)

People: My partner Angelica




STEP 1

Put on the watch tightly


STEP 2

Wait for your watch to go down to your heart rate


STEP 3

Do the activity while using a stopwatch (30 sec) and read the heart rate


STEP 4

Write it into the Collection table


STEP 5

Repeat

High heart rate: While tuning your heart needs more oxygen

Low heart rate: Stretching makes your heart rate faster, but goes down afterwards because it is relaxing for the nervous system.

Topic 6 Science - Bubbles

 Topic 6 - Bubbles


Task 1

Science in Bubbles:

Liquid soap water/ Wand

Blow steady stream air

Layers of air layer of water between two layers of soap

Surround the air and keep it inside

Air helps float

Particle in water makes no bubbles 

Soap helps spread out

All same shape round water layer pull on air inside give bubble round shape




-Task 2-


Tricks


  1. Caterpillar - make 1 bubble and make smaller bubbles on bottom

  2. Carousel - Make 2 medium sized bubble, small bubbles where bigger bubbles meet

  3. Cube Shape - 2 Medium sized bubble, 4 seet about same size, straw in middle and blow to make cube in middle


Wands

Pipe Cleaner - Medium - 4 Pipe Cleaners


Bubble Liquid


Equipment:

  • A set of scales

  • 250ml beaker

  • Calibrated syringe

  • Stirring rod


Ingredients:


  • Table sugar

  • Glycerol

  • Kitchen detergent

  • Water



Method:


125ml water in beaker


Weigh 5 grams of sugar and mix until dissolved


Add 3mls of glycerol 


Add 10mls of dish wash 


Bubbles:




(This isn't the experiment, just some fun things with the bubbles :) )

Topic 5 - Flower Power - Science

 Topic 5 - Flower Power


What are we doing:

  1. Know the parts of the flower and what they do and why.

  2. Be able to dissect a flower, arrange its parts and collate on an information sheet.

  3. Complete a scientific diagram of a flower.

  4. Be able to speak about the above.





Your thoughts on flower:

I like them, but sometimes they bring too many bugs. They are pretty and smell nice, but drop their petals everywhere.


What you have noticed about flowers:

They attract a lot of different bugs, but not just bees.


What you know:

Flowers provide lots of pollen.




Parts of the flower:

  1. Stigma-Male part of flower

  2. Style-long tube

  3. Anther-Holds pollen male cell

  4. Pollen tube

  5. Sepal-Green part on the bottom

  6. Thalamus-where you hold the flower

  7. Male Gametophyte

  8. Petal

  9. Ovule-Female part of flower

  10. Female Gametophyte

Instructions:

Remove 1 petal

Remove sepals

Pinch sides bottom

Cut down center of line

Then pull out the pollen tube
