Lunch with the Prime Minister?!

Today we had a once in a life time opportunity...We met the Prime Minister! She came because if you don't know she said that our school and some others could get FREE lunches for the whole year! Room 21, which is a year 3 and 4 class emailed her about how much they liked the lunches. She liked it so much that she decided she wanted to come to our school.

It was such an awesome experience, we sang Waiata, listened to her speak and ate lunch with her. She is such a nice person and we are so grateful for her.

Once we sang Waiata and greeted her she talked to us about all the letters she get's (She reads all of them!). She said "You don't have to be old for people to care about you opinions". It inspired me because I always thought you had to be an adult to speak up.

After giving her some flowers and the manaiakalani hook, she came and ate lunch with us. She handed them out one by one to everyone. We got asked question by the Prime Minister like: "What do you think could improve in the lunches?", and "What was your favourite lunch so far?".

The Prime Minister has such a beautiful personality it's almost like she's the perfect person. Our school is so grateful for this experience and hoped she enjoyed her visit. Thank-you Miss Prime Minister, for everything.

The Deca Tree - D-mic Maths problem solving

Today we worked on our second task in our D-mic groups. We learned that when you make mistakes your brain grows, but when you say the right answer your brain stays the same size. My group completed this problem and got it correct, but figuring it out took a lot of work.

The first thing we did was figure out how many leaves there were because the question is how many leaves were left on the tree. We figured out that there were 10,000 leaves on the whole tree. Next we had to take away all the leaves which were the ones that the woodcutter took off, there were 1111 leaves. We took 1111 from 10,000 and came up with 8889.

It was really cool to see how other people work in maths and it was quite fun to work in a group.

My quote art

I Painted a background, then chose a quote and finally glued my final pieces on. My quote was Let yourself free, I chose this quote because I tend to stress myself sometimes. I used a paintbrush to paint, but next time I might try to use a sponge. I am happy with my painting because I like the shimmery stars.

If you're reading this I’m sure you know what Global Warming is. My name is Kiarah and I’m a student from the 21st century.

First of all Global Warming is a big problem and if you guys have solved it then, congrats to you people! It is affecting our world so badly that even animals are dying. We try to fix these problems, but some people don’t try, when all they really need to do is change their way of transportation.

A lot of people are trying to solve this problem though, they drive fuel efficient cars, power their homes with solar energy and reduce their water waste.

I have a few questions though, like have you solved the problem? Is it getting worse? And last one, is Antarctica still their?

Chapter 1 - Goosebumps Horror land, The Scream Of The Haunted Mask - Home Learning

 Author: R.L. Stine

Title: Goosebumps - Horrorland - The Scream Of The Haunted Mask

Genre: Fiction

Chapter 1 description:

This book is about a girl named Carly-Beth and her horrible history with the one and only, “Haunted Mask”. It’s halloween soon, and Carly Beth doesn’t know what to be, she can’t stand the ugly mask, but also can’t stand the fact that it’s calling her name every night. She’s ignoring it, but ugly green masks don’t like to be ignored…

Carly Beth was heading to the basement, she opened the basement door and flicked on the light. There was something calling her, but what was it? She knew exactly what it was, it was the horrible green mask that possessed her last halloween.

It was whispering her name as she glided her hand against the railing. She could hear slight rattles and dim voices. Carly reached for a metal box, it was warm, but felt as if it was sitting on an iceberg.

She took a deep breath in and opened the box, inside was the infamous Haunted Mask. It was pulling her in and she couldn't resist the urge. She placed it over her head, but pulled it away.

“Not this time, you're not going to ruin my life again …”. She walked away with pride, but did she close the box?

Prediction:

My prediction is that the mask is going to get out, because she never closed the box. I love goosebump stories and they always have so much detail and thinking process. Either way the mask will end up defeated and Carly Beth will go back to her normal life.

Writing Challenge - Week 2

Sponge-bob Squarepants is a celebrity, so whenever he goes out paparazzi strike. Sponge-bob got so sick of it, he stopped going out, I can understand why because he even got bruised by a camera one time! The adorable yellow square bought a Taufale just to protect himself from the camera’s! The Camera’s! Of course with bad moments there are good moments, just like when one of his fans gave him a globe. They said that “It was their gift to him”, Sponge-bob thought of it as a treasure, he was very grateful.

Chapter 1 - Run for the hills Geronimo - Home Learning

 Author: Elisabetta Dami

Title: Run for the hills Geronimo

Genre: Fiction

This book is about Geronimo Stilton, a mouse that lives in New Mouse City. He runs the most Famouse (famous) News paper on Mouse Island, called “
The Rodent's Gazette”.

Chapter 1:

Geronimo had everything organized and was ready to go on a very relaxing vacation. He is a very busy mouse and can’t make time for vacations like these.

He wanted the most relaxing vacation he could get so he headed off to his most trusted travel agency, “The Wander Rat”. At the front desk was Ms. Samantha Sweetpaws, she searched through vacation after vacation, but nothing suited. Then they found a box for boring mice going on boring vacations.

They found the perfect place and the perfect hotel: The Golden Dreams Hotel in Black Hills. Ms. Samantha Sweetpaws booked Geronimo a first-class ticket. Now Geronimo was ready to go on his perfect relaxing vacation.

Prediction for Chapter 2:

I’m sure something bad will happen because the next chapter is called: Who?Who?Whooooo??. I think he’s boarding his flight in this chapter, maybe the bad thing is something to do with his fist-class seat?

Class Challenges - Half-tube ball race - Recount

Even though we just got back to school we have been having so much fun! We have been accomplishing so many cool challenges that require us to work together and discuss our points of views. Although we did so many activities I have a favourite which is called the “Half-tube ball race”.

We got split into two groups, Yr 7’s against the Yr 8’s. Each group got 10 half tubes and a couple of golf balls. We had to work together to get the golf balls to the other end of the room. Making a track with the half tubes.

It was really fun and in conclusion we learned a lot of important things. Just like an african proverb said “If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.” All of us learnt that if the whole group isn’t participating then it won’t get done.

About me!

As you may already know my name is Kiarah, and I am a year 7 at Pt England School. However, you may not know that I am in room 4 and my home teacher (Plus maths) is Mrs Stone! My literacy teacher is Mr Moran, the team leader is the wonderful Mrs Tele’a.

My last year of primary went really fast and now I, Kiarah a new year 7 is ready to take on my first year of intermediate. So far it has been really awesome, and I have made some really positive, valuable friends.

I don’t play a lot of sports, but I started playing softball last year, I started playing netball in year 3 and played basketball in year 5. I really like singing, that doesn’t mean I have a good voice (it’s horrible). I love trying new things though!

I don’t really know what I want to be when I grow up, but I really want a scholarship to St Cuthberts College!

I can’t wait to see what year 7 offers! I hope you enjoy all of my blog posts and leave a positive comment.
