Dear Jacinda,
I have come across a terrible and crazy problem...
My family got eaten by a huge banana! It all started when My brother was eating a banana. The banana that he was eating seemed to start growing. Then it grew a face, then legs, then arms and then it was a huge monster. We tried to cut it open with all the knifes in our kitchen, but it was to strong and gobbled the knifes all up. My dad tried to wrestle it and, you already probably know how that went. It was only my mother, brother and I trying to destroy this beast. We tried to fight, then it gobbled my brother and my mother up! I quickly ran away before it could spot me.
Please Jacinda I need your help!

SLJ day 4 Activity 3: Wise Words
"Never be greedy with money or take advantage of your workers when you grow up." Those are the truthful words that my grandfather said to me as I walked out of the door of his house. People say the he is a wise man and that he knows when something is going to happen or that he can read minds, but he's just a normal man.
He was born and raised in Tonga. He has three sons and three daughters. Some of them grew up to be wise and some of them still live with him. My dad was one of the wise ones, I think... My granddads he has a company and is doing great, anyway i'm getting off topic.
The point is that when you grow up be wise and if you are already grown up you know what to do...
This task was to ask someone of your family for some wise words and those are words that I remember asking him for. Remember be wise and don't get in trouble.

SLJ DAY 3: WOMEN’S RIGHTS Activity 1: The Right to Vote
I think that our government hers truly the queen (Elizabeth II) should replace Kate Sheppard with our prime minister Jacinda Ardern. The reason why I think this is because she has done a lot for the woman community and has been a great and striving leader for our country. she is the 40th prime minister of New Zealand and she has done a fantastic job. So that is why I think she should be on the 10$ bill.
This task was to think about a woman leader and explain why you would replace Kate Sheppard with that leader. I chose Jacinda Ardern because of her fantastic leadership.Would you have chosen somebody else?

SLJ DAY 2: TAKING ACTION Activity 1: A Long Walk to Freedom
12/08/1970’
Today I worked in the quarry nearly breaking my arms while beating at the gravel. It’s hard being in prison thinking of my old life and trying not to get angry or upset.
The prison guards here are strict and I miss my family very much. Each day being the same, waking up, with my back in pain and going out to the quarry and breaking the rocks into gravel.
I hate it here, but I can’t complain, the ‘beds’ are horrible here, they are made of straw and are so uncomfortable. At least I have my studying to look forward to. At night I study to be a lawyer, and I enjoy it, it takes my mind off everything.
Someday I will get out of this prison and live the life I deserve...
For this task we had to put ourselves in Nelson Mandela's shoes. We had to think about what it would be like to be in prison and have to sleep on flask and work all day.

UV light animation.
Hi My name is Kiarah and this is my animation for extension it is all about UV LIGHT. I hope you enjoy.
ROYGBIV…
This means red orange yellow green blue indigo and violet. UV stands for ultra violet. UV is very harmful to the skin because it is the strongest type of light. It can give you skin cancer because it is so powerful, but you can’t see it so WATCH OUT! The UV that comes from the sun is blocked by the ozone layer which is made of ozone molecules. But in the 1920’s CFC was made this stands for chlorine fluorine carbon. It was put in our old fridges to keep them cold. But then the CFC started to escape!
What scientists didn’t realise was that cfc destroys ozone Molecules. All of the CFC was blown down to the southern atmosphere where Australia, New Zealand and all those other islands lay. So when the cfc came it made an ozone hole in the ozone on top of Australia, New Zealand and all those other islands. That is the end of my animation and I hope that you enjoyed.

The most dangerous writing challenge
I was on the 12th step when I woke up in my pyjamas on a floating staircase of wonder. It was so mysterious. I tripped on my nightgown and that is when I fell down into the cotton candy clouds. I fell in shock trying to scream, but I couldn't. I was all chocked up. then I realised that I was on the 12th step again could this be a fantasy world or a video game? I was confused and wanted to lie in my soft bed so I could have a dream or was this a dream? I walked up until I got to the 14th step then the 16th and when I got to the last step I could see a man sitting on a throne with a rainbow around him. He had big golden wings and he was like a white cloud. He looked like a king. That is when I realised He was a king...
This is a writing challenge that we had to do. It is called the "Dangerous Writing Challenge". We only had five minutes to do it and if you stopped writing you would fail and you would have to start again. I made some mistakes and I fixed some, but then realised that we can't fix it. I hope you enjoy.

Today we played a game called, Woosh/Ping. It is all about acting and performances. It is called this because we have to pass the noises in the name that it is called(Woosh/ Ping). It was so much fun and I hope that we can do it again. I learn't how to concentrate, and listen to when people make a noise. Try this out. This is called a theatre game.

Practice writing test
Playing in the sun was so nice, back then I didn’t have any responsibilities and I wish I could go back to that, but let's get back to the story… It was a beautiful sunny day and I was doing some planting with my nana, this was all the way back in 2013 when I was 4.
My nana called me, but I didn’t really hear her because my ears were so tiny, but also I was pretty far away. My nana came to me and said,
“Come on Kiarah, let’s go inside and have some food.”
We walked to the stairs and walked up them. I ran up 5 stairs and then something bad happened. I slipped! Slipping down the stairs I felt a feeling of horror run through my body. I just closed my eyes and hoped for the best. In reality, I knew that it was going to end badly. When I got to the bottom of the stairs I still had my eyes closed, but I knew something was wrong.
The smell of blood ran through nose, I was still at the bottom of the stairs. I tried to get up multiple times, but it was like I was a manacane- I couldn’t move!
My nana saw me lying there and ran over to me. I felt a tear run down my face, I wanted to cry, but I couldn’t… I was too shocked. My nana dialed 111, for an ambulance. My nana tried to pick me up, but I was bleeding so much that she couldn’t.
A couple minutes later the ambulance arrived and they put me on the wheely bed and wheeled me in the ambo. In the background I could hear my nana talking to the ambulance driver. I had a blurry vision of the ambulance driver.
Before I knew it I had passed out. An hour later I woke up, now I'm left with a scar on my forehead and my eyebrow. That was the most painful moment of my life, and I don’t want it to happen again. I'm proud of my scars though. Take care of yourself...

Adding detail task.
WALT add supporting detail/ideas to our writing
WALT write a range of correct sentence types
During the holiday, I went to the beach with my friends. We saw there was a volleyball net. We asked a family if we could borrow their volleyball. We played volleyball for about an hour then had some lunch. Before we went home, we gave the volleyball back to the family. I had a lot of fun at the beach with my friends.
Read this simple recount.
What do you notice about the recount?
It only uses one sense, and it has used lots of we’s
|
What could we add to this recount to make it more detailed?
More senses and interesting words.
|
Edit this recount above to make it more detailed:
During the holiday, I went to a sunny beach with my friends. We saw in the distance that there was a volleyball net. We loved to play volleyball. We saw a family and asked if we could borrow their volleyball. They were very generous and said yes.
We played volleyball for a whole hour, it was that fun. I hit the volleyball, but then slipped. While Hearing my friends laughing at me I realised that there was sand in my mouth. It was so crunchy and dry. I ran as fast as I could to the water without even thinking. I jumped in and felt stupid for not thinking that it would be this cold. It smelt very salty. The waves were swishing me from side to side. They were very loud, like they were smashing against a rock.
I quickly got out of the cold water shivering, with sand still stuck between my teeth. I got a towel and wrapped myself up in it.
After warming up, I then had a refreshing cup of lemonade. Before we packed up and went home, we gave the volleyball back to the generous and kind family. They were very nice.
I had a blast at the beach and I hope that I can do this again. I hope my friends had a blast too. I felt so happy hopping in the car imagining having a nice hot shower.
This task is about fixing up a recount that our teacher gave us. We had to find out what was wrong with it and what we needed to add to make it more interesting. I added more of our senses and interesting words. I hope you enjoy.

The most dangerous writing challenge
they were getting closer and closer, yesterday berlin, today paris, but when would they hit london? we were running out of time and we had nowhere to go. we would just stay in london and hop for the best.
The news flicked on and it said that people where getting killed, people were running and people were fighting. it was any moment now that they would come to our city and destroy us all.
a moment later I could hear screaming outside and gun shots, could this really be the end of the world-I thought to myself. no it couldn't be I was to young to die, I still wanted to have children get married and have my first kiss! I was so worried I couldn't stop thinking that I was going to die.
AS I was thinking I looked out the window and saw a creature. buzzzzzzzzzz! the tv cut out, booooo! a man shouted I screamed, but it was too late...

The most dangerous writing challenge
A beautiful bird flew across the room as I stepped in the door from school. "Ahhhhhhhhhhh!" my sister screamed as she came down from the stairs. I walked up to her and said...
"Don't worry the bird won't hurt you just, stop screaming and be quite. Make sure you don't move stay here."
I started to walk up to the bird being aware that it was scared. Like it was reading my mind it stopped, but then it landed on my sisters head. I started to panic knowing that my sister would freak. I quickly ran up to the bird and caught it making sure not to hurt it. I picked it up and went outside and then let it go. the I washed my hands.
